Timeline
-
1. Research (November - December 2023)
Our initial phase is dedicated to researching the 1947 Partition, ensuring our documentary's foundation is built on factual, verified information. We will engage with historians, scholars, and utilize authenticated sources to construct an accurate portrayal of events. This period is crucial for gathering historical context and setting a factual baseline for our narrative. Our approach is to blend academia with storytelling, ensuring both historical accuracy and engaging content. This foundational research will guide the entire project, ensuring we present a balance and informed perspective.
-
2. Training as Citizen Historians (December 2023 - February 2024)
In this phase, our team will participate in the "1947 Partition Archive Oral History Workshop," enhancing our skills in collecting and documenting oral histories. This training will certify us as "Citizen Historians," a crucial step in ensuring the authenticity and sensitivity of the survivor stories we gather. We will also engage and enroll in different 1947 Partition related courses and seminars. The skills acquired here are essential for empathetically and accurately recording the personal experiences of partition survivors.
-
3. Funding and Budget Transparency (January - May 2024)
This phase focuses on securing the financial resources necessary for our documentary, involving fundraising, grant applications, and donor outreach. As we raise funds, we commit to transparency by releasing a comprehensive budget plan. This report will include costs for equipment, travel, crew wages, and post-production processes. It's a step towards building trust with our supporters, showing them how their contributions are vital to our mission.
-
4. Storyline Development and Travel Planning (February - April 2024)
During these months, we will be crafting a compelling and coherent storyline for our documentary, integrating our research findings and planned interviews. Concurrently, we will organize our logistics for travel to India and Pakistan, coordinating with local contacts and partition survivors. This period is crucial for ensuring that our visits are well-planned, meaningful, and safe, allowing us to effectively capture the essence of each location and story. We aim to create a narrative that not only tells the history but also connects with current issues in these regions.
-
5. Filming in India and Pakistan (June 2024)
June is for our on-the-ground documentary filming in India and Pakistan, where we will spend two weeks capturing firsthand accounts and contemporary perspectives. This phase is the heart of our project – engaging directly with partition survivors, documenting their stories, and exploring current regional issues. Our aim is to authentically capture the human experience of the partition, reflecting its impact on present-day lives. This immersive experience is crucial for bringing the realities of the partition's legacy to a global audience. Our fieldwork is not just about recording history, but about connecting with people and understanding the ongoing reverberations of the partition.

6. Post-Production and Screening Plans (July - September 2024)
The final stretch of our project involves post-production, where we edit and piece together our footage to tell a powerful and cohesive story. This phase includes editing, sound mixing, adding music, and finalizing the documentary for its audience. As we approach completion, we will begin the process of identifying and applying to film festivals and organizing private screenings, aiming to share our work with a wider audience. This period is critical for refining our documentary, ensuring it not only informs but also resonates emotionally with viewers. Our goal is to create a final product that is not only a documentary but a compelling narrative that honors the stories of those affected by the partition.
